The project ‘Establishment of Sustainable Management of Aragvi Protected Landscape’ (no: GE-2018-022-FO-43040/4‘) supported under the Czech Development Cooperation is truly the first project focused directly on the establishment of the protected landscape with the following goals:
1) development of management plan for the area;
2) proposal of zoning;
3) capacity building of newly established Administration of the Aragvi Protected Landscape Administration (development of the governance model, workshops for the staff and local community, etc.);
4) provision of specific methodologies and background studies for the future work of the Administration (e.g., biodiversity monitoring, inventory of cultural heritage incl. architecture rules for the Aragvi area, etc.).
Besides that, the project activities are also linked to development of tourist infrastructure in the area.
The project “Detailed Designs and Construction Supervision for the Sustainable Visitor Trails and Mountain Huts for Kazbegi, Pshav-Khevsureti, and Tusheti Protected Areas” funded by Municipal Development Fund of Georgia in the scope of the Third Regional Development Project (RDP3) financed by the World Bank Group and the Government of Georgia (GoG).
The objective of the project is to assist the Agency for Protected Areas (APA) of Georgia to develop existing sustainable hiking trail system and lodging facilities (campsites and variety of huts) to connect Kazbegi, Pshav-Khevsureti and Tusheti Protected Areas along the Greater Caucasus Mountains.
The scope of the project covers Kazbegi, Pshav-Khevsureti and Tusheti Protected Areas, Study Corridor with a length of approximately 350 kilometres (Length of the Study Corridor is not the same as the length of planned Trails and final designs will be developed only for the selected sections of the study corridor). The estimated volume of works covers the development of Sustainable Visitor Trails and Mountain Huts Development and Connecting of Kazbegi, Pshav-Khevsureti, and Tusheti. The estimated volume of works for Sustainable Visitor Trails and Mountain Huts Development and Connecting of Kazbegi, Pshav-Khevsureti and Tusheti Protected Areas is estimated at USD 2,500,000.
