Rivers within the Aragvi Protected Landscape have been restocked with 30,000 eggs of the vulnerable brown trout species listed in the Red List.
The release of trout eggs and larvae into the wild is a scientifically approved method that supports the reproduction of vulnerable species and maximizes the chances of natural hatching. This approach to supporting species reproduction has been successfully practiced in many countries worldwide.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, together with relevant agencies, conducts annual fish stocking activities across the country. The fish stocking program within the Aragvi Protected Landscape will continue over the next two years.
The stocking process was attended by the Mayor of Dusheti Municipality, Matsatso Narimanidze, Deputy Mayor Otar Chkheidze, Head of the Biodiversity and Forestry Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Karlo Amirgulashvili, Director of the Aragvi Protected Landscape NATO Tsqruashvili, and the Head of the Pshav-Khevsureti National Park Ushisha Tsiklauri, along with their respective teams.
